2011 Graduate Student Paper Prize Winner

The APLA student paper prize committee has recently announced a winner and honorable mention for our annual competition. This year the committee members—Michelle Bigenho, Erica Bornstein, Jessica Greenberg—enjoyed reading a set of very strong submissions that reflected the exciting breadth and creativity of upcoming work in the field. The authors will be recognized at the APLA business meeting in Montreal on Saturday, November 19, 12:15-13:30.

Winner:
Chika Watanabe (Cornell University)
“Return and Repetition in Development Work: Discipline as a Temporal Modality in a Religiously-based Japanese NGO”

Honorable Mention:
Ieva Jusionyte (Brandeis University)
“Performing Journalism on the Backstage of the State: Illegal Airwaves, Versatile Cables, and the Struggle for Power in an Argentine Border Town”
