Book and Paper Prize Winners!

The Association for Political and Legal Anthropology is pleased to announce the winners of this year’s Book Prize and Graduate Student Paper Prize competitions. We invite you to celebrate the authors and hear more about the winning entries during the APLA business meeting at the AAAs on Saturday, November 17, 2018 12:15 PM – 1:45 PM in the San Jose Convention Center (MR 212 B).

APLA Book Prize: mourning remains

It is with great pleasure that we award the APLA Book Prize to Isaias Rojas-Perez (Rutgers) for Mourning Remains: State Atrocity, Exhumations, and Governing the Disappeared in Peru’s Postwar Andes (Stanford University Press 2017). 

Honorable mention goes to Nikhil Anand (University of Pennsylvania) for Hydraulic City: Water and the Infrastructures of Citizenship in Mumbai (Duke University Press 2017) and Shiri Pasternak (Ryerson University) for Grounded Authority: The Algonquins of Barriere Lake against the State (University of Minnesota Press, 2017).

Graduate Student Paper Prize: chillimagepillbox

We are also thrilled to announce that Dario Valles’ paper, “Chill Pills, Play and Panic in a California Administrative Court: State Power and the Co-Construction of Child and Adulthood” has been awarded the APLA Graduate Student Paper Prize 2018.
